About Val Di Fiemme

Val di Fiemme is a prominent valley located in the Trentino region of northern Italy, situated in the Dolomites mountain range. This alpine valley is internationally recognized as a major ski resort destination and forms part of the renowned Dolomiti Superski area. The valley is notable for its extensive cross-country skiing trails, World Cup alpine skiing events, and traditional woodworking heritage rooted in its vast coniferous forests.

Basic information

The valley's formation is geological, shaped by glacial activity during the Quaternary period. Its modern infrastructure includes numerous ski lifts, over 150 kilometers of ski slopes, and extensive cross-country skiing tracks. The area hosts regular FIS Cross-Country World Cup and FIS Ski Jumping World Cup events. Val di Fiemme maintains protected status as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for the Dolomites. The valley currently serves as a year-round destination for winter sports and summer mountain activities.

Location

The nearest major cities are Trento approximately 40 kilometers southwest and Bolzano about 35 kilometers northwest. The valley is accessible via the A22 motorway with exits at Egna-Ora or San Michele all'Adige, followed by regional roads SS612 and SS48. Regular bus services connect the valley to Trento and other surrounding areas. The nearest railway stations are in Trento and Ora, with bus connections to the valley. Tourist infrastructure includes well-maintained road networks, ski lifts, marked trails, information centers, and accommodation facilities. Accessibility may be limited during heavy winter snowfall, though roads are regularly cleared.

Nature

Val di Fiemme features a typical alpine climate with cold winters and mild summers. The landscape is dominated by the Pale di San Martino mountain group and Latemar massif, both part of the Dolomites. Dense forests of Norway spruce and silver fir cover the valley slopes, managed sustainably for centuries by the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme. Wildlife includes marmots, chamois, roe deer, and various bird species. The Avisio river flows through the valley. While developed for tourism, the area maintains significant natural preservation within the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Natural Park.

Story

The valley has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with evidence of Roman settlement. During the Middle Ages, Val di Fiemme gained autonomy under the Prince-Bishopric of Trento, forming the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme which managed the valley's extensive forest resources. The tradition of woodworking, particularly violin making using spruce from the Paneveggio forest, dates back centuries. Tourism development began in the early 20th century with the first ski lifts installed in the 1930s. The valley has hosted multiple World Ski Championships and World Cup events since the late 20th century.

Были парой в отеле Albergo Bellaria 3* в CARANO(не путать с таким же в предаццо).
