About Kronplatz

Plan de Corones, in German Kronplatz, is a high mountain of the Alps 2.275 metres s.l.m. It is on the south of Val Pusteria,in Alto Adige, 3 kilometres to South of Brunico. The origin of the massif with shape of panettone, whose higher point calls Spitzhörnle, is volcanic.
Panoramic site, it offers a spectacular sight on the surrounding mountains, of the Dolomites (the most faraway visible mountain is the Marmolada) up to the tops of the Alps in Val Venosta.

Nature

Three of the seven South Tyrolean national parks are located in the Kronplatz Holiday Region: Fanes-Sennes-Prags Natural Park with its legendary magical world, Rieserferner-Ahrn Natural Park with its imposing 3000ers and Puez-Geisler Natural Park.
Fanes-Sennes-Prags Natural Park - The biggest part of the forests situated higher than 1,000 meters is covered by spruces. The spruce forests extend from around 900 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The nearer we get to the timber line, the more they are interspersed with larches and cembra pines.
Most of the nature park consists of meadows and Alpine pastures. Among the many flower species found in dry places are the arnica, the gentian, the knotgrass ( Polygonum ) and the Crespis aurea .
Between 2,000 and 2,800 meters above sea level there are more or less closed grass mats and grass communities. The lime meadows of the Dolomites are composed of blue moor grasses and evergreen sedges. The golden eagles and the ravens build their nests there.
Rieserferner-Ahrn Natural Park
The sparsely populated mountain valleys are surrounded by woods with a large percentage of spruces. The montane spruce forests are mostly located at altitudes between 800 and 1,400 meters above sea level. On the pastures of the nature park there are arnicas, bearded hare-bells, rough hawkbits, golden cinquefoils, catsfeet, anemones and other species.

Infrastructure

The Pustertal is a piece of land where you encounter culture everywhere. Lots of castles are witnesses of an eventful past. Churches, chapels and wayside shrines tell about the residents’ spirit of art. Visit the folk museum of Dietenheim: it is a place which collects, grooms and exhibits old rural commodities for the posterity; or one of the well-fortified castles or the town museum for graphics in Bruneck, or, or, or… you will be spoilt for choice.
Concordia 2000 - a bell for peace - is about 3.1 m high. It is an elegant and filigree construction.
